   A helmet is the most important piece of equipment you can buy, if its an ATV or bike or any other type of open cap vehicle. that way if you crash your head will be protected. you have to make sure its not to tight or to loose. if its to loose it could fall off and then its useless and if its to. A new helmet should be a little tight, but not uncomfortable. this is because the foam padding will get looser.

    During the winter time quads don't do very well on snow, they cant go through very deep snow and the tires always spin out. some people go out and buy a snowmobile, but before you do this there are other options like buying a snowmobile conversion package for your ATV or quad. To install the new snow tracks only takes a few hours to do. they help for traction on ice and snow. thanks to these conversions you can save money and enjoy your ATV all year long!!

motorcross tracks

   On a typical motocross track there can be a number of different types of jumps. Some of the most common ones are the singles, doubles, triples, and table tops. A single is just simply a single jump where you land on the other side of the jump of on flat ground. The double type is a jump where you take off on one and land on another slope. The triple is a little more difficult because you have to take off on one, clear another one, and then land on the other side of the third slope. The tabletop is similar to the double but instead of an opening its just solid dirt between the two slopes.

KFX 400

   The Kawasaki KFX 400 is what i have for a sport ATV. i have the lime green version. The front A-frames provide an 8.5 inches of travel, which means thats how far it can go down before it bottoms out. This makes it great for when you get a lot of air and want a smooth landing. It had dual disc brakes in the front and a single in the back. It has a four stoke engine and is a manual. the KFX is one of the lightest quads because its wheels and most of its frame is made out of aluminum-alloy and the plastics are also very lightweight, this help for going around tight turns faster than the competition. It has an electric start and reverse which always helps.

quad riding school

     Located in Union City TN, there is a quad riding school. Its called the Joe Byrd Quad Riding School. The Joe Byrd Quad Riding School was established in 1993 and several of its students have went on to achieve success including Jeremy Lawson, Nick De Noble and Clay Holmes. Openings for the classes are limited, but room is still available for those who are interested in learning the techniques used by some of the top racers in the sport.Some things that you will go over in this school are things like starts, passing, cornering, braking, whoops and jumps and diet and exercise. if you do enroll you will need to bring a few things with you, like water, extra parts, and basically anything else you would need if you actually going to a race.

Jeremiah Jones

    It’s been a little over a year since Jeremiah Jones’ accident that seriously injured his spine and left  paralyzed from the waist down. In that time Jones, has had to adapt to many changes in his life, but Jeremiah has not let his injury hold him back. Even though racing ATV’s is no longer possible for him, Jones has stayed involved in the industry that he loves and has proved himself to be a valuable asset and an inspiration to the ATV community both on and off the track. Before his injury he was a three-time AMA ATV Pro Motocross champion.

yamaha raptor 125

This year Yamaha came out with the new raptor 125. This is a good thing because before the 125 you either had to go with a youth quad or a full sized 250cc adult sized quad. Before you would most likely upgrade to a better quad the better you got a riding, the 125 raptors new suspension gives you the ability to ride it weather your a beginner or an experienced rider. The downfall on this quad is that is is made for smaller racers, the way the handlebars a positioned makes it harder for taller racer to ride and maneuver comfortably. Although if all you want a quad for is just to have fun, the raptor 125 is perfect for anyone, big or small, you can have fun on this quad.

                                  
                        

atv paddle tires

    If you live an area that has a lot of sand dunes or sand races then paddle tires would be the best choice for you. They are different from regular knobby tires because they have larger paddles and not near as many knobs. The front tires almost always only have one rubber rib running through the center of them. They work better for sand because knobby tires just grab the top of the sand, the paddle tires actually dig farther down and grab more. They work great for mud also, because of the large gaps between paddles there isn't anywhere for mud to get caught and reduce traction.

side by sides

    A side by side is a four wheeled all terrain vehicle. It usually fits two people and is a more comfortable ride than a normal four wheeler. A side by side usually has a box in the back to put stuff in so they work great if you need to get a job done. Some come with the option of a dump box, this make it easier to haul dirt or anything like that. Its takes more to make these street legal than a regular four-wheeler because you need to add a windshield and doors. They are called side-by-sides because the seats are next to each other. they can go into any type of terrain that a four wheeler or quad can. Some people say the side by side is the best type of ATV because its much safer because of the roof and the fact that you can take another person along and still be safe.

atv cc sizes

they're many different engine sizes that you can buy. ATV engines sizes are measured be CCs, or Cubic Centimeters of displacement, or how much air/fuel is moved through the engine in one complete revolution of the crankshaft.The different types of ATVs range in size from as small as 50cc youth ATVs up to 700cc Sport quads, 800cc Utility ATVs, and SxS' (side by side) going over 1,000cc. you have to choose which size you want according to your age and weight. If your too young and light for a larger ATV you wont be able to control it. that's why you never see a 5 year old on a 400 cc quad, it just wouldn't work and they would lose control. so next time you buy an ATV ask an employee which size would be the most appropriate for you.

local tracks

If your into racing but want to stay in state there are a few local and in state tracks to race. The Jack Pine Gypsies track is in Sturgis, the Dumke Motor Sports DMX Raceway in Clear Lake, the Sioux Valley Cycle Club in renner SD, or the Scramblers Cycle Club in yankton. All of these tracks have emails and phone numbers if you are interested and want to go see them yourself and compete. if you go to the closest track in sturgis, the Jack Pine Gypsies, they have cash prizes for winning from 200 to 7000 dollars. they have classes for how experienced riders you race with, and also classes for ATVs, street bikes, dirt bikes, and many others. if you are looking for quality tracks in south Dakota these tracks and clubs would be great places to check out.

riding gear

when riding an atv its best to use the right gear to prevent injuries. mostly all you need gear for is if you are racing. not so much for just range riding. first of all a helmet is a must if you dont want cracks or bumps in your head. besides a helmet you should use a chest plate to protect your ribs and chest, racing boots to protect your ankles, goggles to protect your eyes from dust and rocks, and gloves. if you wear all of this equipment then your risk of injury is reduced by alot. even if you are just drivin your atv it is still a good idea to wear a helment incase you roll your atv over on top of you.

sport and utility atvs

During the summer taking a four-wheeler out on the tracks and trails can be fun. But atvs aren’t only used for play; you can also use them as work horses. There are two types of atvs, sport and utility. There’s only two types but there very many different types of brand names and makers.


The main use of a sport atvs, or quad, is for speed and fun. If you ever want to start racing atvs a quad is what to look for. They have more suspension and a wider wheel base so you don’t hurt yourself going over jumps and around fast corners. They are smaller than a utility because there main use is speed. Because you would be going around turns and over jumps you’ll have to adjust your speed a lot. That’s why sport atvs have more aggressive gears than a utility atvs.

If you’re looking for an atvs for more of a work use you’re looking for a utility atvs. They have a lot more power that would leave a sport atvs in the dust. They are bigger and heavier than a sport and have lower gears for more power. You can get a utility atvs with 4 wheel drive and differential lock for better traction. For really bad conditions you can attach a winch to the front of a utility to pull you or other atvs out.
